Abstract

Objective: To report on the implementation of the Telehealth Center at the UFPA University Hospital Complex and its main results. Methods: It's about a descriptive study of the development of the Telehealth Center, reporting on its construction, as well as the results achieved in a historical series related to the number of tele-consultations, tele-electrocardiogram and teledermatology reports. Results: There are many challenges in the Amazon, in particular the difficulty of accessing the internet and the crossable long distances by river. In this context, the activities of the UFPA Telehealth Center have been developed, which has made progress in offering teleconsultations, teledermatology and tele-electrocardiograms, and teleradiology has started, as well as the availability of synchronous and asynchronous web lectures and self-instructional courses for territories in the Amazon such as the great river archipelago of Marajó, the Belém capital and the Tocantins region in Pará.  Conclusion: There are many difficulties, but the small advances and the results of the Telehealth Center's offerings in expanding access to Amazonian communities encourages the Center's team to continue its mission.
