The Present Situation of e-Health and mHealth in Ecuador

Abstract
This article proposes to present the current situation of the incorporation of ehealth and mhealth in Ecuador. The main resolutions and laws relating to the health area of Ecuador, which contained references to e-health and mhealth, were analyzed, as well as the websites of the Ministry of Health of Ecuador and of international organizations that produce data related to the subject were analyzed. Significant initiatives are ongoing in Ecuador such as government initiatives in the areas of electronic medical record, national telehealth project and data security and interoperability; mhealth projects from the private sector and structuring a high speed
research network linking the country’s top universities - CEDIA. There are also several initiatives by companies in the development of specific software for the health area - medical applications, in the area of nursing and others. Also created was the law “Organic Law of Public Data Registration”, which proposes to structure the information generated within the scope of the federal administration. The article concludes by stating that there are several initiatives in Ecuador in the areas of e-health and mhealth that over time have been maintained and expanded.
